Here is where a 24 day adventure ends. The lights of St Lucia and its neighbour, Martinique glisten in the distance in the early hours of the morning. Our celebrations are composed, accompanied by the small welcoming party on the dock armed with a welcoming hamper, a cool box of rum punch, and friendly smiles. Mind you, it was 4:30 in the morning. As I phone my parents, the feeling of self-pride and accomplishment dwells upon me. I did it. I finally did it. Unwinding takes time. Buzzed up by the rum punch, we set on cleaning and bringing order to our home of the past month. Better to get it done straight away and begin the celebrations with the friends we met in Las Palmas as soon as possible.

In the end, we came 4th in our category. An impressive accomplishment considering our troubles in the earlier part of the trip. It was all thanks to the amazing job of the crew and skipper. Throughout this journey, I have made friends for life, and my eyes have been opened in ways that I simply couldn’t imagine. What’s next? I’m not sure. Get away from the ocean for a couple of weeks probably. The possibility of doing another ocean crossing is certain, and I look forward to what the next year brings me. For now, all I can do is enjoy St Lucia and the company I’m in. See you in the next adventure.
